lecture notes: Caravaggio
Michelangelo Merisi also known as Caravaggio was a Italian painter. He was born in 1571 in east of Milan in the small town of caravaggio where he got his name from. Caravaggio went to Rome in 1592 as an orphan with nothing. He moved to 10 different places in Rome to make a living by selling his painting that he painted from what he saw on the streets, people and still life.
This is one of his still life artwork which I really impress and admire a lot. This painting look incredibly real, all part are very detail and well painted which I cannot believed it a painting. The texture of the fruits and basket are excellent.

These lizard can be symbolize as temptation and consequences. The middle in this painting which defined as homosexual in that period of time. A middle finger which bitten by a lizard gave a message as a warning of brevity of sensual pleasure.

Okay but what did YOU think of his work (and this goes for the notes on the Grayson Perry post)? How does this relate to your project? How does this work effect you and what you think about the message and the hidden ideas within artworks?
